Philippines: Bangsamoro, Indigenous Peoples Of Mindanao To Re-Affirm Kinship Relations

A ritual to re-affirm the kinship between the Bangsamoro and the indigenous peoples (IPs) of Mindanao is slated to be held at the Talaandig Ancestral Territory in Sungko, Lantapan town, Bukidnon province on March 7 and 8.

The ceremony on the re-affirmation of kinship among the non-Islamized natives and the Bangsamoro of Mindanao is designed to help facilitate the peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Organized by the Mindanao Peoples Caucus and the Consortium of the Bangsamoro Civil Society, the re-affirmation ceremony will involve the 18 major groups and subgroups of non-Islamized Indigenous Inhabitants of Mindanao and the 13 ethnolinguistic groups of the Bangsamoro.

According to the organizers, the descendants of the peace pact holders who are living witnesses of the boundaries of the traditional territories, will be directly involved during the preparation and execution of the reaffirmation ceremony.

Also, the peace panels of the government and the MILF, members of the International Contact Group, the International Monitoring Team, diplomatic community, United Nations agencies, key government officials, political leaders, civil society, and the media were invited to witness to the re-affirmation ceremony.
